I won the design competition “Beam Me Up, Scotty!” at the Helsinki Design Fair – Habitare 2012 with “Life Bits”.
“Life Bits” is a customizable modular system consisting of several interaction-cubes, developed to promote inter generational dialogue and improve communication with elderly. The project, based on the mega-trends of Ageing (world population is getting older) and Prosperity (economical growth from developing countries) foresees a future were more public interaction and sharing of personal knowledge and experiences will be needed.
“Life Bits” was developed together with the well-known Icelandic designer Hrafnkell Birgisson in a innovative “over skype” mentoring program.
The design competition “Beam Me Up, Scotty!” was organized by +Studio /diagonal and had representatives from Scandinavian countries. This innovative competition links new emerging design talents with well known designers in pairs, each pair is meant to manage a design process over the Internet, with the intent of creating a future megatrend based concept. Designers were asked to create the future in 2030, the problem and the solution; future application, to solve future problem based on current megatrends.
All the final projects were prototyped between the 12th and 16th of September at +Studio stand in Helsinki’s Habitare Design Fair, which was part of the World Design Capital Helsinki.
The jury was composed by a Martela representer, Petteri Kolinen, a +Studio evaluator, Sami Oinonen, the Future Specialist, Ville Tikka and the general manager of Klaus K Design Hotel, Marc Skvorc.
